Phlebotomist- Manassas
Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description The primary role of the Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position involves collection and storage of specimens according to established procedures and ensuring all processes meet regulatory standards. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens. + Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks. + Update patient information and explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously. + Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. + Ensure understanding and compliance with all physician orders. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders. + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. + Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper storage and labeling. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual departmental trainings. + Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques. + Experience with specimen collection, particularly with geriatric patients. + 1-2 years of experience in blood drawing. + Understanding of Epic EMR systems is a plus. + Strong customer service skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications + High School Diploma or GED. + 2 years of experience in a fast-paced environment. + Geriatric experience is preferred. Work Environment This role is primarily based in an IOP setting, working with geriatric patients Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The site is very busy, accommodating 25-30 patients per day, and includes challenging blood draws. Additional hours may be required at the nearby Manassas PSC. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Manassas, Virginia. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
