Job Description

The Phlebotomist will perform vital tasks including greeting patients upon arrival, drawing blood, labeling specimens, and performing centrifuge operations. The role involves recording maintenance data, decontaminating equipment, and updating patient information. Phlebotomists will collect and store specimens following established procedures, clearly explaining the process of venipuncture or other specimen collection. Proficiency in using straight needles and butterfly needles is required, along with a thorough understanding of physicians' orders. Responsibilities also include matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing specimens as required, and ensuring accuracy against test orders. The role demands compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations, attending annual department trainings, answering telephone inquiries, and handling insurance, billing, and sample processing.

ResponsibilitiesGreet patients and conduct blood draws using straight or butterfly needles.Label specimens and perform centrifuge operations.Record maintenance data and conduct decontamination procedures.Update patient information and store specimens according to procedures.Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes to patients.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Ensure correct test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.Package specimens for transport and store samples as per temperature requirements.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Handle insurance, billing, and sample processing.Provide excellent customer service to patients.Essential Skills6+ months of phlebotomy/venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency in drawing blood and blood culture techniques.Customer service experience in any setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Additional Skills & QualificationsWashington Phlebotomist Certification requiredHigh School Diploma or GED.Patient-first mindset.Positive, hardworking personality that takes initiative.Proven reliability and positive attendance.Ability to take feedback well and eagerness to learn.Work Environment

The schedule is Monday to Friday, 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM with rotating weekends. The contract duration is initially set for 3 months, with potential extensions up to 6-9 months based on business need and performance. This position offers a chance to transition to a direct role, contingent on consultant performance and attendance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.85 - $27.00/hr.
