Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description The Phlebotomist I plays a crucial role in assisting with various duties, troubleshooting processes, training, and providing recommendations to enhance workflow efficiency. The position involves performing blood draws, labeling, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontaminating areas, and updating patient information. Responsibilities + Perform blood draws and label specimens in accordance with established procedures. + Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data. + Decontaminate areas and update patient information. + Explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner. + Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles. + Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately. + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders. + Verify test requisitions against scripts to ensure accuracy. + Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature. + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. + Attend annual department trainings. + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Essential Skills + Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draws. + Patient care expertise, including venipuncture and specimen collection. + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment. + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + High School Diploma or GED. + 0-2 years of experience in a related field. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with pediatric and geriatric patient care. + Healthcare knowledge, particularly in drawing blood. Work Environment The position is based in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. The role requires compliance with safety regulations and procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens during transport. The environment necessitates attention to detail and efficient workflow management. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
