Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist Float with 3 or more years of recent phlebotomy experience. The ideal candidate will be proficient with straight needles and comfortable performing venipunctures independently from day one. Reliability, punctuality, and strong communication skills are essential for success in this role.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, decontaminate workspaces, and update patient information.Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection procedures, such as urine or fecal collection, to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.Package specimens for transport.Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes, accurately label, and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.Essential SkillsMinimum of 2 years' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Additional Skills & QualificationsSpecimen collection expertise.Ability to pass a 1-round phone interview and a 2nd round onsite mock blood draw with a phlebotomy professional.Proficiency in blood draws and venipuncture.Work Environment
This is a float position based in Brooklyn, with responsibilities that require travel to various Patient Service Centers (PSCs) in Brooklyn, Staten Island, and Queens as needed. The schedule varies from 7 am to 8 pm depending on the site, with most sites opening between 8/8:30 am and closing at 6-7 pm. Some Staten Island sites open at 7 am. The position includes rotating Saturdays. All tolls, parking, and mileage expenses incurred between PSCs are covered.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $26.00/hr.
