The primary role of the phlebotomist is to assist with various duties, including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens in accordance with established procedures and explaining the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
ResponsibilitiesPerform blood draws and label specimens.Centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and conduct decontamination.Update patient information as required.Collect and store specimens properly.Explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process clearly to patients.Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.Verify test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.Package specimens for transport according to protocol.Store specimen samples at required temperatures and in appropriate containers.Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.Attend annual department trainings.Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential SkillsProficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.Experience with specimen collection and processing.Data entry skills.Ability to perform venipunctures using both straight and butterfly needles.Strong customer service skills.Familiarity with medical, pediatric, and geriatric care.
Additional Skills & QualificationsValid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.High School Diploma or GED.2-4 years of experience in related roles.
Work Environment
Work is conducted in a Patient Service Center (PSC), Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
