Job Title: Phlebotomist Job Description
The primary role of the Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. The position requires experience in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information.
Responsibilities
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously to patients.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
+ Fully understand and execute physicians' orders.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
+ Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against script for 100% accuracy.
+ Package specimens appropriately for transport.
+ Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place them in correct collection containers or tubes with accurate labeling.
+ Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
+ Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
+ Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ High School Diploma or GED.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ 5-7 years of experience in a related field is preferred.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Austin, Texas.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
