4 Years PhD Fellowship in Collaboration with CHUV-UNIL - On-site - (m/f/d)

This PhD position plays a key role in the long-standing 15-year partnership between Siemens Healthineers and the CHUV-UNIL Translational Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center. In a unique setting at the interface between clinical and methods research - and translation to the “real world” to benefit patients, you will explore the potential of advanced motion sensing and compensation techniques with focus on liver imaging and interventions on low-field MRI.

You will work onsite at our offices at the CHUV and the EPFL Innovation Park, fully embedded in dynamic teams and well-connected to researchers, clinicians and Healthineers. The setting at the CHUV and in the Swiss Innovation Hub is unique, as you will be surrounded by passionate Healthineers, researchers, clinicians and students striving to translate innovation into the clinics, to make the latest technology available for patient care. While being exposed to these diverse inputs, you will be a full-fledged researcher, working with scientific rigor and independence on your project; you will be able to go to conferences and publish your findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Your role:

You will explore new methods to acquire and reconstruct MR images, developing scientifically sound and innovative solutions.With support and caring supervision, you will learn to autonomously solve a scientific problem.You will translate your successful developments to a first prototype stage to validate them in real-life settings. You will disseminate your work at scientific conferences and in leading journals of the field.To validate your results, you will interact with clinical and research partners locally, nationally, and worldwide.You may travel both internationally and domestically for collaboration visits and conferences.

Your expertise:

You have completed a Master Thesis in a topic related to engineering, mathematics, physics or similar. You have experience with programming in C++ and Python or Matlab.You are familiar with MRI (e.g., MR physics, methods for MR image reconstruction, etc.).You have experience with solving inverse problems – ideally inverse problems in the context of medical imaging or image reconstruction using both traditional and machine learning based methods.Your hands-on experience with MRI equipment and/or experience with the IDEA sequence programming would come as a plus.

You also do not have problems to ask for help if you are stuck.You work with scientific rigor and have already written a scientific text (e.g., your Master Thesis).You like to interact with different people, and you are motivated by being able to bridge the gaps between research, industry, and clinical medicine.You are creative and can overcome obstacles.
