Cleveland Clinic’s inpatient pharmacy areas support distributive and clinical pharmacy services provided by staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacy specialists and pharmacy technicians, supporting 60 nursing units, 80 operating rooms, 4 PACUs, and 10 Cath labs, accounting for over 1,440 inpatient beds. As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician on the Sterile Products Team, you will be responsible for patient-specific and batch compounding of sterile preparations used by our inpatient and ambulatory populations and throughout our procedure suites in accordance with USP <797> and <800> regulatory standards with a focus on safety, quality, and timeliness. 

A caregiver in this role works variable hours, including three weeks of day shift followed by one week of second shift. Day shifts run from 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and second shifts are from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. This position is Monday through Friday and includes a rotating weekend every third week.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.  Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.  Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

High school diploma or GEDCertified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician TraineePlease note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program6 months of hospital experience
