The Pharmacy Technician – Oncology supports safe and accurate preparation of oncology therapies by compounding sterile preparations throughout the day while assisting with inventory management and ordering of medications and supplies. This role collaborates closely with pharmacy technicians, pharmacists and nursing staff to support patient care in a highly specialized environment. Caregivers take pride in the meaningful, rewarding work performed in this department and benefit from the opportunity to learn a unique oncology specialty within a supportive, team-oriented culture.

 

A caregiver in this position works an 8 hour shift, Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00am to 5:30pm. No weekend, holiday or on-call requirements.   

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.  Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.  Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.  Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

High School Diploma or GED  Licensed in Florida as a Registered Pharmacy Technician  Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon or within 18 months of hire Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds  Basic computer skills  

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician Training Program  Six months of hospital experience and IV compounding experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, walking, reaching, stretching and sitting for prolonged periods; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing, and compounding.

Personal Protective Equipment:

•     Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
