Pharmacy Technician duties in the Operating Room Pharmacy area may include:

Prepare sterile products, injections and IV chemotherapy for use during the peri-operative periodDeliver medications as needed to surgical roomsCorrectly distribute and account for controlled substance usageAssist the Pharmacist with auditing controlled substance utilizationStock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventoryFill Pyxis automated dispensing cabinetsPrepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticalsPrepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocolsAssist with training of staffComplete special projects as assigned by supervisorOther duties as assigned by supervisor to assist with preparation and delivery of patient medicationsRequired Qualifications*

Pharmacy Technician Associate:

High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experienceCompletion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program is desirableValid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory AffairsProficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary

 Pharmacy Technician Intermediate:

High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program is desirableValid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessaryOne or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.

Pharmacy Technician Senior:

High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experienceCompletion of a Pharmacy Technician Training Program is desirableValid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory AffairsProficient communication, computer and basic mathematic skills are necessary.Two or more years of relevant pharmacy practice or equivalent experience is necessary.

Pharmacy Tech Grad:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Eligible for licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan Pharmacy, or currently licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan (Temporary License or Full License)
 
 Desired Qualifications*

At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable. Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations is also highly desired.

Licensure & Certification

The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.

Newly hired pharmacy technicians must obtain a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their hire date.  This can include a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License or a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License. If a technician obtains a Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before their date of hire, they must obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License within 1 year of hire date or before the Temporary Michigan Pharmacy Technician License expires, whichever is sooner, in order to maintain employment.  In addition, All pharmacy technicians must obtain PTCB certification within 6 months of hire date or in time to obtain a Full Michigan Pharmacy Technician License, whichever is sooner, and they must maintain their PTCB certification throughout the duration of employment at UMHS as a Pharmacy Technician.

Work Schedule

This is a full time evening position. You will rotate between the University Hospital (Ann Arbor), the Cardiovascular Center (Ann Arbor) and our newest facility, Brighton Center for Specialty Care.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
