The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician works in the hospital’s basement pharmacy, which fills approximately 370–450 medications per day. Caregivers in this role may be scheduled across three areas, including the Triage Shift, supporting nursing requests, task follow-up, inventory tracking, window coverage, and procarp fills, and the Carousel Shift, which includes inventory management, Pyxis fills and deliveries, IV room collaboration, batching, and supporting a fast-paced IV operation. Morning and afternoon teams work collaboratively to manage deliveries and inventory, while the night shift consists of two technicians. This role offers a strong team-based environment, where caregivers value collaboration, support, and regular team gatherings.
A caregiver in this role will work a day/evening rotation from 6:00am to 2:00pm or 3:00pm to 11:30pm with an occasional midnight for coverage. Further requirements include every other weekend and every other holiday.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding. Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections. Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training. Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks. Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED Ability to perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compoundsMust meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:
Must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) OR the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)AND it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee. If certified but current status with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) is Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee it is required to update registration status to a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the OBOP within six months of hire.Please note: A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role.
