Pharmacy Technician I Full Time Evening Position Summary
The individual in this position acts under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and provides assistance in dispensing functions, including: purchasing, inventory control of all drug classes, sterile product preparation and associated equipment maintenance, and automated dispensing cabinet equipment and inventory maintenance. Also performs technical duties to maintain pharmaceutical dispensing functions to all neonate, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including inpatients and outpatients.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrated skill with office machines and computers. Demonstrates proficiency in sterile products compounding.
Job responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
Accurately fill and label medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner. Accurately stock automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) in a timely manner; maintain ADC cleanliness; destock expired meds from ADC. Check medication rooms and patient bins for discontinued or expired meds and return them to pharmacy. Fill/refill emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits timely and accurately. Re-package and label oral medications/extemporaneous preparations and maintain appropriate records. Respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins. Assure all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing. Stock medications into pharmacy inventory, including sterile compounding areas. Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications. Deliver medications to patient care areas. Attend to medication requests and phone calls. Perform monthly unit inspections. Prepare simple IV admixtures accurately, consistent with IV policies and procedures (USP and USP) and perform routine cleaning tasks and documentation. Comply with state and federal regulatory requirements, Joint Commission standards and Tenet and hospital policies and procedures. Assist in performing various duties as assigned.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent
Experience: Required:3 years of hospital pharmacy experience
Professional Requirements/Certifications: Required: Registered Pharmacy Technician license/certification, as required by state law.
Preferred: Accredited training in sterile products preparation and IV Admixture Certification.
