This unique certified medical position will serve as a Prescription Assistance Program (PAP) Advocate.  Duties include assisting with program management and serving as the point of contact between patients, internal staff, external programs, and pharmaceutical companies.  This role will support one location. A bilingual candidate would be ideal, as over 80% of the patients served in our clinics speak Spanish.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

\n\nApplication Assistance:\n\nCoordinate and assist uninsured, underinsured, and indigent patients with the submission of applications for prescription assistance programs offered by pharmaceutical manufacturers.  Advocate will ensure applications are completed accurately and in their entirety for all necessary information and signatures.\nAnalyze eligibility criteria and enrollment requirements, reviewing information for pharmaceutical companies to enroll patients in prescription assistance programs.\n\nData Management:\n\nInput and track data regarding the status of applications using the Epic EMR and MedData software.\nGenerate refill reports and order medication refills promptly.\n\nPatient Communication:\n\nCommunicate with patients about the status of their applications and medication arrival.\nProvide updates and address any patient inquiries.\n\nMedication Handling:\n\nReceive, check-in, document, and update medication records in the system.\nAssist with the patient pickup process for medications.\n\nPoint of Contact:\n\nServe as the primary point of contact for patients, internal staff, providers, and external sponsors regarding program details and application status.\n\nCompliance:\n\nPerform duties as directed and follow BSWH policies and procedures.\nEnsure medication names, dosages, and quantities match Epic EMR for accuracy.\nControl drug inventory, maintain accurate records of drug disposal through the inventory management system, and maintain current drug information.\nMaintain accurate temperature logs for refrigerators and freezers.\n\n\n\n

Job Summary

\n

The Pharmacy Technician 1, supervised by a Pharmacist, provides pharmacy services, manages inventory, and delivers care as per TSBP regulations.

\n

Essential Functions of the Role

\n\nPerforms limited pharmacy services and duties associated with the stocking, preparation, labeling, dispensing and delivery of medications.\nHelps patients and medical staff with nonjudgmental questions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist preceptor.\nAnswers incoming phone calls. Responds to the caller's needs or directs them to the right person for service.\nCommunicates promptly with team members when inventory is low. Helps with drug purchasing and inventory control, like ordering and receiving medications and supplies.\nPerforms designated tasks concerning pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of order for drugs.\nEnter medication orders from doctors' sheets or prescriptions. Fill according to the label, ensuring the correct product is dispensed. Ensure the dosage form and charge quantity match the formulary. Enter correct billing data and be accountable for medication charges and credits.\nResolves discrepancies, troubleshoots and runs reports from the automated dispensing machine (ADM).\nCleans and helps maintain equipment and work area; sterilizes glassware according to established procedures.\n\n

Key Success Factors

\n\nBasic knowledge of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, terminology, drug use and aseptic techniques, standards and equipment.\nKnowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.\nMust be able to read, write and follow instructions and flow chart protocols.\nAbility to sort, check, count and verify numbers.\nAbility to follow established safety, infection control, environmental and isolation practices and procedures at all times.\nExcellent social skills required to interact effectively with patients and staff.\nGeneral computer skills include using software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.\n\n

EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED EquivalentEXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of ExperienceCERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION -

 Pharmacy Technician (PHT), Pharmacy Intern (RPH-INT): Must have one of the following issued by the TX Board of Pharmacy:
Pharmacy Tech (PHT) license
Pharmacy Tech (PHT) intern license.
