The Pharmacy Technician – Ambulatory supports a first-floor outpatient pharmacy processing approximately 300 prescriptions per day in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities include prescription preparation, Pyxis support, narcotic filling and count verification, and assisting with medication delivery to psychiatric floors, patient rooms, and the discharge lounge. Technicians also coordinate prescription pickup with nursing units, escalate issues as needed, and ensure medications are prepared accurately before pharmacist review. This role is part of a supportive department where teamwork and shared accountability are central to daily operations.
A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday on rotating weekly shifts of 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and 8:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. There are no on-call or holiday requirements. Weekend coverage is required approximately every 3–4 months at JJ North Pharmacy, with caregivers able to volunteer for preferred shift options, and some shifts may be voluntarily picked up by other team members.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the pharmacist in an ambulatory/outpatient setting. Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients. Maintain inventory for the outpatient pharmacy. Assist with extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions and bulk compounding of prescriptions and over the counter items. Operate the point-of-sale cash register system. Monitor and act on reorder points, restock prescription and non-prescription area and remove expiring products. Provide multi-pharmacy support in assigned areas as needed.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma/GED Can perform algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compoundsMust meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:
Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).

It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of PharmacyPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
