Pharmacy Resident
Summary The Pharmacy Resident is responsible for attaining knowledge and practical experience in a variety of direct patient care settings. These will include both inpatient and outpatient clinical areas as required by the PGY1 Residency Program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed daily; other tasks may be assigned. + Display self-directed, independent, motivated learning guided by the Residency Program Director and the appropriate preceptor(s) for each learning experience + Complete Pharm Academic evaluations in a timely manner, both for the learning experience(s) and preceptor(s) + Actively participate in the education of pharmacy students + Develop interpersonal communication skills and become an effective member of a healthcare team approach to patient care + Work in concert with the Residency Program Director to enhance the residency experience for future residents + Adhere to the Residency Program Manual provided during orientation + Receive and interpret prescription drug orders and file them in the correct location + Collect, analyze, and assess information on which to base safe and effective medication therapy + Prepare and dispense medications following best practices and the organization’s policies and procedures + Document direct patient care activities appropriately in the medical record or where appropriate + Provide effective medication and practice-related education to patients, caregivers, health care professionals, students, and the public + Check supplies of drugs, pharmaceuticals, and IV admixtures regularly, keeping supervisor informed of stock discrepancies or needs + Dispense and maintain appropriate records for controlled drugs + Fill patient prescriptions as ordered + Check and fill paramedic drug and IV boxes regularly + Maintain established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control protocols + Keep abreast of Pharmacy tends and techniques to ensure quality care is provided to patients of all ages + Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services + Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care + Participate in pharmacy and hospital committees as needed Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy OR a PharmD degree. Preferred Experience: Inpatient pharmacy Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Resident must be licensed to work as a Pharmacist in the State of Virginia. Failure to attain licensure in accordance with the Residency Manual may result in suspension or dismissal from the residency. Must maintain BLS certification.
