The Personnel Commission oversees a civil service-type system of personnel management for the Centinela Valley Union High School District's (CVUHSD) classified employees. As mandated by the Education Code, the Commission is responsible for recruiting, testing, employment retention and promotion based on merit and fitness, and the classification of non-teaching (classified) positions of the District. It also has the duty of outlining the rights of classified employees and management in most areas of the employment relationship. The Personnel Commission is comprised of three (3) members; one member appointed by the Board of Education, one member nominated by the classified employees and appointed by the Board of Education, and the third member appointed by the other two Commissioners. Personnel Commissioners are appointed for three-year terms, with the term of one member expiring on December 1, each year. This position is for CVUHSD's Joint appointee to the Personnel Commission. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The Personnel Commission is the public body responsible for maintaining a “Merit System” for Centinela Valley Union High School District (CVUHSD), which impacts all constituencies of MUSD and most readily impacts practices of management and classified employee recruitment, selection, retention, career development, and advancement opportunities. To execute these responsibilities, the State Education Code provides that the Personnel Commissioners shall do all of the following: classify positions; recommend salary ranges based on the principles of “like pay for like work”; conduct appeal hearings regarding matters relating to discipline, dismissal, and examinations; conducting fair and objective recruitment, selection, and appointment procedures that result in the establishment of eligibility list to fill vacancies with qualified staff and prescribe rules and regulations related directly and indirectly to such personnel practices.

Be a registered voter and reside within the boundaries of Centinela Valley Union High School District. 2. Be a known adherent to the principles of the merit system, as indicated through the promotion and support of the selection, retention, and promotion of individuals upon the basis of merit and fitness as indicated through actively engaging in Personnel Commission activities, including attending meetings of Personnel Commissioners, and attending workshops and conferences related to Personnel Commission functions and responsibility. 3. NOT be a member of the Governing Board of any school district or county board of education. 4. NOT be an employee of Centinela Valley Union High School District 5. Be able to meet at least once per month to conduct business, usually in the late afternoon for approximately two hours.
