Job Summary
Student Health Services is seeking a Peer Education & Student Wellness Specialist. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.
Student Health Services ( SHS ) at Oregon State University ( OSU ) provides leadership in supporting the health and well-being of the university community. SHS offers a comprehensive primary care clinic and a wide range of health promotion and prevention education services for OSU students. SHS is part of the Division of Student Affairs.
The Peer Education & Student Wellness Specialist plays a critical role in the delivery of health promotion and prevention education by overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based peer education programs. This position provides leadership in the strategic growth of impactful peer-led initiatives that foster healthy behaviors, support student development, and promote a culture of inclusion and belonging.
In addition to peer education oversight, this role leads the development and coordination of comprehensive efforts to prevent and reduce hazing among OSU students. The Specialist works collaboratively with campus departments, student groups, and community partners to support university-wide strategies that enhance student well-being, safety, and connection.

Key Responsibilities
60% PEER EDUCATION PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION AND STUDENT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
+ Develop, implement, evaluate, and supervise comprehensive evidence-based peer education programs for Health Equity & Wellness department
+ Oversee hiring, training, managing, supervising, and evaluating paid student staff/peer educators
+ Design curriculum and training materials to prepare student leaders for high-impact, student-led wellness initiatives. Coordinates and facilitates ongoing training and professional development for student staff
+ Train students and provide oversight for social media presence and content in alignment with SHS priorities and OSU protocols and policies
+ Coordinate and schedule student staff work schedules to ensure delivery of outreach and education as well as any staffing needs for workspaces
+ Guide students in building relationships and effectively collaborating with communities across campus on health promotion efforts
+ Provide oversight and management of budget related to peer education programs, including staffing, events and programmatic dollars
+ Research optimal practices regarding peer health and student success programs on college campuses to include review of peer institutions, literature review, guidance from organizations and agencies (i.e., NASPA , ACHA , etc.)
+ Collaborate with other professional staff who also provide mentoring, coaching, evaluating, and performance improvement functions for student leaders
+ Collaborate with professional staff to build student leadership and provide high-quality supervisory experiences
+ Contribute to student and professional staff training with a focus on communication skills, interaction skills, communicating across difference/conflict, and receiving community feedback
30% HAZING PREVENTION
+ Develop, implement, evaluate, and adapt hazing prevention education curriculum and training. Lead trainer for any requested hazing prevention workshop across campus. Responsible for training any co-facilitators on hazing prevention curriculum
+ Assist with assessment efforts and data collection, analytic strategies, and report writing
+ Understand and inform prevention and education practices through the lens of social justice, anti-racism, and anti-oppression, including the intersection of multiple identities and traditionally marginalized populations
+ Utilize national standards ( ACHA Standards of Practice, CAS Professional Standards) to support prevention and wellness initiatives
+ Collaborate with key partners on and off campus to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to hazing prevention
10% SERVICE TO STUDENT HEALTH AND UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY
+ Assist the Health Equity & Wellness Director with strategic planning, budgeting, and advancing health promotion efforts across campus
+ Serve on committees within SHS and other relevant university and community committees
+ Assist with other committees as needed
What You Will Need
+ Master’s degree in a relevant field such as public health, education, teaching, college student services administration, psychology, social work, counseling, or related degree and 2+ years’ experience directly related to health promotion, public health, other prevention education, teaching, peer education, and/or harm reductionORBachelor’s degree in relevant field (see above) and 5+ years directly related experience (see above)
+ Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, as a leader and colleague
+ Effective front-of-the-room teaching and facilitation abilities
+ Demonstrated success coaching or building efficacy and leadership in others
+ Experience developing or adapting and implementing curriculum and/or programs for varied audiences
+ Successful experiences building and maintaining relationships and partnerships with multiple constituents, community partners, and colleagues
+ Experience successfully collaborating in a team environment with diverse individuals
+ Ability to manage conflict, unexpected circumstances, or the need to shift direction while remaining calm and thoughtful
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.
What We Would Like You to Have
+ Experience participating or working in a youth or student leadership development/peer program
+ Specialized training or education in dynamic facilitation, motivational interviewing, cross-cultural dialogue, applied improvisation, coaching or other similar skills
+ Experience training, supervising, and evaluating (student) staff
+ Experience in Higher Education setting
+ Certified Health Education Specialist ( CHES ) or other relevant certifications
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
Office environment and periodic healthcare environment. Various events and activities across campus and periodically outdoors. Typically works Monday – Friday 8-5, but schedules will vary based on needs of campus partners or delivery of service. May include flexing schedule to accommodate periodic evening or weekend hours.
