Volunteer Description:

Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles.

Job duties:

The Ronald McDonald Family Room at Primary Children's Hospital offers a place for patients' families to relax in a friendly, home-like atmosphere.  It is a place where families can have a home-cooked meal, visit with other families, take a shower, do laundry, or just get a little downtime outside a child's room. The Family Room is also a place for families to receive assistance and learn about resources within the hospital and the local community.  

Volunteers help staff the room's front desk and welcome families as they come in. They also help the team with cleaning, organizing, stocking, making beds, treats, crafts, etc.

The goal of the Ronald McDonald Family Room is to help alleviate stress and fatigue while families are in the hospital. Volunteers will interact with families as needed, document guest usage and stock supplies, and help answer questions. This position will mainly involve parents and siblings, with some patient visits.     

Available shifts:

Monday 9:00am-1:00pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm

Tuesday 1:00pm-5:00pm

Wednesday 9:00am-1:00pm

Thursday 9:00am-1:00pm

Qualifications:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsApplicants need to be 18 years or older.Applicants need to be able to commit to 100 hours of volunteer service.Self-motivated and flexible.Able to work well with diverse populations.Sensitive to patient and family situations and dynamics.Maintain and respect professional relationships.Ability to follow directions.Ability to work as part of a team.
