Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated PCB Layout Automation Intern to support automation and tool development efforts within our networking hardware engineering team.

This role is ideal for a student interested in combining hardware design with programming. The intern will gain hands-on experience developing automation tools using Cadence Allegro PCB Designer and the SKILL, while supporting high-speed PCB layout projects for networking platforms such as switches and routers.

You will work closely with senior PCB engineers to improve workflow efficiency, create reusable tools, and help standardize layout processes.

Responsibilities:

​ Primary Focus: Automation & Tool Development

Assist in developing and testing SKILL-based automation utilities

Modify and enhance existing SKILL scripts for:Differential pair validationLength matching reportsConstraint auditsDesign rule automationCreate simple custom Allegro forms (GUI elements) using SKILLDevelop reporting tools for layout metrics and quality checksDocument scripting workflows and best practicesSupport integration of Allegro automation with external scripts (Python or batch tools)

Secondary Exposure: PCB Layout Support

Assist with basic routing and placement tasksRun design rule checks (DRC) and analyze resultsSupport engineering change orders (ECOs)Observe high-speed routing methodologies for Ethernet, PCIe, and DDR interfacesGain exposure to stack-up design and impedance control principles

Education & Experience:

Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fieldCoursework in programming (data structures, scripting, or software fundamentals)Strong interest in combining software development with hardware designAnalytical mindset and problem-solving ability

Knowledge & Skills:

Exposure to SKILLFamiliarity with Cadence Allegro PCB DesignerExperience with Python, Tcl, or other scripting languagesParticipation in robotics, FPGA, PCB, or hardware-related student projectsInterest in high-speed networking systems

– United States of America: Hourly Salary USD 35.00 - 40.25 in California
