PCA Division Float Pool

Job Summary and Responsibilities

The TX PCA Division Float Pool works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide essential patient care and support services. The PCA plays a vital role in ensuring a safe, comfortable, and clean environment for patients, while assisting with their daily needs and contributing to the overall efficiency of the unit.

The primary function of this role is to be available and flexible to float to various departments, and sites throughout the Texas Market to provide patient care, which could include but not limited to scheduling day of staffing, more than one assignment location within a single shift, travel assignments, or seasonal staffing patterns. Participates as a member of the health care team in cooperation with and under the direction of a Clinical Leader. 

Clinical needs include ICU, Med Surg/Telemetry, Emergency, OR/PACU, Cardiac Cath Lab and Women’s’ Services.

Float Pool PCAs are hired with the understanding they must float based on the details below, the schedule is based on the needs of the organization:

Float RN III B:  Employees (with a minimum of a 2 hour notice) will agree to float to any facility within the Texas division.  

Must be available to be scheduled for a minimum of 3 shifts every week and available to be scheduled a Saturday and Sunday shift every other weekend.   

Must be available to be scheduled for two major holidays per policy. 

The rate of pay for this level of commitment is $34.00.  Mileage reimbursement and applicable differentials will apply if eligible.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care:Provides direct patient care as delegated by the Registered Nurse (RN).Assists in providing personal hygiene needs (e.g., bathing, grooming, oral care).Assists with physical care needs (e.g., ambulation, turning, positioning).Monitors and records vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure).Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output.Obtains and records daily weights.Performs blood glucose testing and operates blood glucose meters according to policy.Reports changes in patient's status to the Registered Nurse (RN promptly).Performs sitter or patient care companion duties when needed to ensure patient safety and well-being.Unit Support & Communication:Assists in the admissions, transfers, and discharge processes for patients.Delivers specimens to appropriate departments.Picks up medications from the pharmacy as directed.Assists as a receptionist for the unit, including answering phones and directing visitors.Performs unit housekeeping needs to maintain a clean and organized environment.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED, from an accredited SchoolBasic Life Support, BLS 

Minimum Experience:

One (1) year of direct patient care experience 

Preferred Experience:

Acute care experience in a hospital setting preferred
