Medical Facilities of America, a regional leader in healthcare and skilled nursing services, is seeking a qualified candidate to join our growing team as a PBJ Compliance Analyst. This is an in-office role in our Roanoke, VA office.
As a PBJ Compliance Analyst, you will serve as the organization's subject-matter expert on CMS Payroll-Based Journal staffing data. You'll partner with Administrators, Directors of Nursing, and HR Directors at our partner facilities to ensure that the staffing data reported to CMS is accurate, complete, and submitted on time, so that Five-Star ratings reflect genuine performance and our commitment to Care Beyond Compare.

What You’ll Do
Own the end-to-end quarterly PBJ submission process, ensuring staffing data is complete, validated, and filed within CMS deadlines.
Review PBJ data prior to submission to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, working with facilities to verify accuracy and completeness of reported staffing hours.
Reconcile staffing hours against payroll records, time-clock data, and agency invoices to confirm all compensated hours are accurately captured.
Conduct mid-quarter data reviews to identify trends, gaps, or risks while there is still time to course correct.
Analyze staffing metrics against CMS Five-Star scoring thresholds and flag areas needing attention.
Monitor for conditions that could trigger CMS penalties, including days with insufficient RN coverage or data that fails validation checks.
Establish and maintain a regular cadence of calls and meetings with facility leadership to review staffing data, address emerging concerns, and keep reporting practices on track between quarterly submissions.
Educate facility teams on PBJ requirements and the connection between daily timekeeping practices and published ratings.
Support CMS PBJ audit responses by compiling documentation and coordinating with facility teams.
What You Need
Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field – or – equivalent combination of education and experience.
2+ years of experience in healthcare operations, compliance, or staffing analytics preferred.
Working knowledge of CMS PBJ reporting requirements and the Five-Star Quality Rating System preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with large datasets.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and communicate findings to non-technical audiences.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across multiple facility locations.
High attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity and ethical reporting practices.
