Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Payroll (PY) Tax Supervisor to join our dynamic payroll team. This position will ensure compliance across all US and PR business entities (13) across 50 states. This role involves overseeing US and Puerto Rico payroll tax operations, staying informed on tax regulations, and implementing adjustments to maintain compliance standards. The PY Tax Supervisor requires strong analytical abilities, an in-depth understanding of payroll tax legislation, and the capability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance payroll tax procedures. Responsible for ensuring accurate submission of tax registers, returns, and yearly statements, and managing the governmental and internal tax audits.

This position will be based from our headquarters in North Chicago and follow our hybrid policy of 3 days/week onsite.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain expert knowledge and ensure compliance and reporting of US/Puerto Rico payroll tax regulations across all (50 states) jurisdictions.Advise and consult on tax treatment for Business Travelers Tax Program, Multi State Tax Residency, and others multinational tax initiatives.Ensure compliance with US federal, state, and local tax laws in the 50 jurisdictions.Communicate regulatory changes to upper management and update systems and processes accordingly.Lead and manage a small team, including the Payroll Tax Lead.Oversee regular audits and assist the Payroll Tax Lead in resolving compliance issues and monitoring penalties or notices.Collaborate with the Payroll and Corporate Tax Teams for accurate and timely payroll tax liabilities processing.Review and approve reconciliations of state withholding and unemployment taxes monthly, quarterly, and annually.Serve as primary contact for federal, state and local payroll tax audits.Work closely with payroll system providers (e.g., ADP, Workday) to ensure correct tax setups, updates, and reporting.Monitor tax filings to meet accuracy and deadline requirements, including amendments and corrections for state and federal returns.Lead business analytics & AI tools to monitor performance, compliance and measure payroll tax metrics outcomes.Provide expert guidance and support to the payroll team, Corporate Tax, Compliance, HR, and finance on complex payroll tax issue including equity taxation.Proactively identifying enterprise risks and strong negotiation skills with internal external auditors.Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
8+ years of experience in US and Puerto Rico payroll tax. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is preferred.Require a minimum of 3 years’ supervisory experience.In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations, including IRS guidelines.Experience in a large, complex organization (e.g., 10,000+ employees and multiple entities).Proven ability to lead/ supervise tax specialistsExperience with Workday Payroll and ADP or any other integration with third-party applications.Strong customer orientation and a work ethic focused on exceeding expectations.Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish.Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and collaborate with multiple stakeholders.Strong analytical and process diagnostic skills, capable of understanding both details and the bigger picture.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
