Payroll Specialist

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university

+3 years of professional experience in payroll processing

Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position

This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant’s ability to lawfully obtain access to such items

 

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field

Payroll experience in a manufacturing environment 

Familiarity with payroll and time and attendance system(s), preferably Workbrain

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Exhibits a strong commitment to dependability and reliability; ability to gain the confidence and respect of the customer base and holds a high degree of integrity, understanding the importance of sensitive and/or confidential information

Strong proficiency with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and related computer skills

Demonstrates aptitude to work independently using analytical thinking; possesses a strong understanding of business processes to deliver requested output timely and accurately

Experience managing multiple complex projects and delivering under tight deadlines and resource constraints.

Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple large projects and interact with all organization levels

 

Additional Requirements:

Must be able to work on site full time in Torrance, California.

The Payroll Specialist will maintain the integrity of payroll and timekeeping to ensure accurate information for reporting of payroll data.  Be responsible for the daily update of management reports, financial report, provide supports with the accounting entries for month-end functions, and automate payroll tasks where applicable.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Check error log and fix any errors and then send the AR and GL files

Responsible for the preparation and processing of payroll; review and ensure accuracy of approved timesheets; verify that all time sheets are approved by the appropriate level of authority; track and deduct all employee purchases and other special payroll deductions

Monitor the processing of new hires, employee status changes, terminations, and other employee processes for appropriate accuracy of payroll

Monitor overtime and report fluctuations periodically to management

Ensures payroll is executed accurately and timely by partnering with human resources and management

Investigates any payroll discrepancies

Processes any manual or off cycle payments, employee reimbursements, pay card payments, termination pay as needed

Consult with appropriate party on discrepancies, problems, and issues involved in the payroll process

Forecasts payroll payments to Finance Manager and other members of management, and liaise with the accounting team on all payroll related reconciliations

Work closely with Human Resources to maintain compliance with company policies

Run queries utilizing payroll software, research and answer all payroll related questions

Provides accrual time off reports to HR and management

Assist with journal entries and balance books of accounts

Perform SOX controls and internal controls
