Payroll Specialist
Job Title: Payroll Specialist

Job Description

This role is pivotal in managing payroll functions and supporting the implementation of a new HRIS system. You will manage an existing portfolio, including payroll queries and union-related reporting, while also contributing significantly to the Workday implementation project. This position requires a balance between operational payroll management and system development, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and internal policies.

Responsibilities

Manage and oversee bi-weekly payroll processing for 500 employees, including special paychecks and union staff payroll.Handle benefits and account reconciliations, ensuring accurate timesheet processing with ATA Attendance Management System.Lead rental calculations, resolve payroll queries, and ensure system integrity across SAP and other platforms.Participate in Workday meetings and training, supporting payroll staff transition and system validation.Conduct OHA reports and union-required reporting by extracting data using SmartStream queries.Troubleshoot payroll issues, ensuring data accuracy and process improvements.Coordinate full-cycle Canadian payroll in a unionized environment, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational deadlines.Process statutory deductions, pension contributions, and other earnings/deductions accurately.Audit reconciliations and adjustments, including retroactive payments, vacation payouts, and statutory holidays.Interpret collective agreements, prepare government remittances, and manage Year End processing.Serve as a subject matter expert for payroll systems, participating in development, testing, and implementation of HRIS enhancements.Create and validate payroll reports for stakeholders, conducting audits and reconciliations.Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless payroll integration and compliance.

Essential Skills

Experience with Workday, especially in testing and implementation.Strong understanding of union payroll requirements and reporting standards.Ability to independently extract and analyze data using SmartStream or similar tools.Familiarity with hospital or healthcare payroll environments.Demonstrated leadership in payroll operations and team management.Full-cycle payroll, high-volume and biweekly payroll processing.Expertise in payroll finance, legislation, and unionized environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Proficiency in HRIS, ERP systems, and advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and formulas.Certification as a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or from the National Payroll Institute (NPI).Experience with OneStream, Workday HRIS, and Workday CRM.Experience in healthcare or hospital payroll environments.

Work Environment

The position is based in a hospital setting, with the office situated on a higher level away from patients. Initially, the role requires five days a week in-office for the first three months, transitioning to one day work-from-home during pay week and two days on off pay week. The work week is 37.5 hours with flexible hours between 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. This is a long-term contract role with opportunities for career advancement and potential transition to a permanent position.

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
