Payroll Specialist
Job Overview Job Title: Payroll Specialist Job Location: McLean,Virginia Job Responsibilities Trace Systems is seeking a Payroll Specialist to support and grow within our payroll department. This individual will assist with the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. They’ll work closely with finance and have the opportunity to take on more responsibility over time. + Support semi-monthly payroll processing for all employees, including salaries, allowances, garnishments, benefits deductions, and taxes. + Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee time and attendance data. + Process payroll updates for new hires, terminations, salary changes, and adjustments. + Calculate and process allowances and premiums such as per diem, housing, hardship/danger pay, and COLA. + Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour regulations. + Prepare and provide documentation during audits. + Collaborate with HR and Finance to identify and implement process improvements. + Manage payroll deductions for employee benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans. + Respond to payroll and benefits inquiries from employees with professionalism and accuracy. + Perform ad hoc analysis of payroll data to support troubleshooting, compliance reviews, and management reporting. Minimum Qualifications + Due to the nature of the work and contract requirements, US citizenship is required. + Minimum of 3 years of related experience with a Bachelors degree in accounting, business administration, human resources or related field; OR minimum of 5 years of related experience without a degree. + Strong knowledge of payroll processes, payroll tax compliance, and internal controls. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel). + Experience with Deltek Costpoint and ADP Workforce. Desired Qualification + Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability. + Strong written and verbal communication skills. + Experience in a government contracting environment. + Demonstrated ability to take initiative and grow into increased responsibility. Education + Bachelors degree in accounting, business administration, human resources or related field; OR minimum of 5 years of related experience without a degree.
