Payroll Specialist
This role is responsible for managing the Authority’s bi-weekly payroll process, including the preparation, processing, and auditing of payroll data. The position involves collecting, entering, and verifying employee information—such as wages, taxes, garnishments, benefits, and other deductions—within the Payroll and Human Resources Information System (HRIS). The goal is to ensure all employees are paid accurately and on time. Responsibilities + Collaborate with managers and assistant managers to review and approve employee timecards, leave requests, and other payroll-related items. + Process and audit payroll, verifying wage calculations for accuracy. + Ensure timely and precise processing of payroll deductions, including benefits, garnishments, and applicable taxes. + Reconcile payroll records with accounting data to maintain accuracy. + Input and update employee records in HRIS and VRS Navigator, including compensation and benefits for new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations. + Submit retirement contributions and related files, including VRS snapshots, Mission Square, and VOYA. + Respond to payroll and timekeeping inquiries, including issues related to time clocks. + Maintain and verify compensation schedules and Payroll Change Forms, ensuring timely and accurate documentation. + Support special compensation projects such as cost-of-living adjustments, bonuses, and policy-based payouts. + Prepare and distribute reports and documentation for management and auditors. + Generate earnings statements detailing wages, taxes, and deductions. + Respond to inquiries from the IRS, unemployment offices, and revenue agencies. + Manage the distribution and collection of leave buy-back letters. + Review invoices and prepare check vouchers. + Handle mail and package delivery and pickup related to departmental operations. + Evaluate current payroll procedures, stay informed on industry trends, and recommend improvements. + Comply with all Authority personnel policies and departmental procedures. + Perform other related duties as assigned. Essential Skills + 4+ years of experience in payroll processing, including manual processing, garnishments, and child support. + Basic proficiency in Excel, including basic formulas and SUM. + Knowledge of payroll taxes and accounting. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with VRS snapshots, Mission Square Files, and VOYA files, preferably with a state, local, or higher education background . + Proficiency with ADP. + Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification. + Bachelor's degree is a plus Work Environment Fully onsite role from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
