Payroll Manager
Job Title: Payroll Manager Responsibilities: + Supervise payroll staff, including task assignment, work review, and performance feedback. + Manage the calculation and payment of health, dental, and other benefit premiums in coordination with county government. + Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and prepare internal reports for position monitoring and control. + Support budget development for wages, benefits, and various cost centers and funds. + Analyze payroll data and budget materials to support financial planning. + Assist department administrators with payroll and benefits-related questions and issues. + Prepare and submit financial reports, surveys, and required state and federal filings. + Ensure compliance with federal guidelines for grant-funded employees and financial aid. + Manage COBRA and health insurance reconciliations and related journal entries. + File quarterly federal tax returns (Form 941), unemployment reports, and distribute W-2s. + Communicate payroll and benefits updates to the college community. + Safeguard the confidentiality and security of payroll and benefits records. + Prepare year-end accruals, audit documentation, and financial analyses. + Authorize payroll actions and ensure adherence to policies and deadlines. + Evaluate and improve payroll/benefits processes and organizational structure for efficiency. + Oversee payroll system updates and ensure accurate processing. + Perform monthly bank reconciliations for the college’s operating account. Qualifications: + 5+ years of payroll experience + 3+ years in a management or supervisory role + Experience with any ERP or payroll software (Colleague preferred) + Ability to assist with payroll processing & reconciliation + Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard office software + Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll regulations + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field + Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and recommend improvements + Ability to interpret and apply changes in federal and state regulations to payroll and benefits processes + Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with internal departments and external agencies + Proven ability to hire, train, evaluate, and manage staff + Initiative to identify and resolve issues independently + High level of accuracy in financial reporting and compliance + Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality Work Environment: The position requires five days in the office, involving heavy computer use in a fast-paced setting. The role involves handling sensitive information and frequent interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
