Payroll Compliance & Efficiency Specialist

      

The Payroll Compliance & Efficiency Specialist will be responsible for researching, applying to Thrivent’s situation, recommending changes, and then implementing changes to ensure that Thrivent’s current Workday payroll setup compliant with all applicable payroll tax laws, regulations, and company policies for the company’s complex, nationwide workforce. In addition to the primary focus on compliance, this position will also serve as a backup to the payroll processors and the payroll audit function.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Independently reviews and validates compliance in Thrivent’s Workday payroll setup, making recommendations and partnering with other areas of Human Resources to make changes as needed

Monitors compliance changes, and pending compliance changes, in an ever-changing nationwide payroll landscape to identify gaps between Workday payroll system and federal/state/local payroll law. Partners with other areas of Human Resources to Implement changes as needed.

Documents changes to Thrivent’s Workday payroll setup describing what is changing and why

Develops content on payroll compliance topics and provides training to Payroll Administrators, benefits, HRIS and other areas as needed

Manage payroll compliance reporting areas, such as SOC reporting and local tax setup/maintenance

Ensures accurate and organized recordkeeping of Thrivent’s payroll records

Partners with the Sr Payroll Analyst to conduct payroll audits, investigate discrepancies or errors, and recommend solutions to ensure compliance with all payroll laws and regulations

Drives efficiency on payroll processes by partnering with the Sr Payroll Analyst to identify and implement process improvements.

Partners with management, HRIS, legal, benefits and other stakeholders in implementing necessary changes

Liaise with compensation team members on minimum wage issues

Act as backup to payroll audit and processing roles, including cross-training & processing on each of two biweekly payrolls

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:   ​

Required:

CPP or FPC certification, or equivalent knowledge

Knowledge of current, and pending Federal, state, and local laws/regulations affecting payroll practices, procedures, and compliance activities

Multi-state payroll experience

Working knowledge of Workday payroll, including, but not limited to: processing regular and on-demand payroll, and company and employee tax set-up

Able to assess Workday set-up, prioritize needed changes, and create action plans to implement

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing

Preferred: 

Knowledge of and experience in working with Statutory Employees, in a multi-state environment

Payroll tax experience

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $34.86 - $47.16 per hour, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
