Description Robert Half is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization in the San Diego area for a highly skilled Payroll Analyst. This contract-to-permanent opportunity is perfect for someone with technical payroll expertise who is passionate about making an impact in the nonprofit field. Responsibilities: + Process payroll for hourly, salaried, and contract employees biweekly or monthly, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. + Analyze payroll data, audits, and reports to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws. + Collaborate with HR to confirm payroll data such as new employees, benefits deductions, terminations, and position changes. + Calculate payroll adjustments, including retroactive pay, bonuses, garnishments, and reimbursements. + Prepare and reconcile payroll-related journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting and integration with accounting systems. + Generate accurate tax filings and oversee compliance with wage and tax laws, including W-2 and 1099 processing. + Work with nonprofit-specific benefits programs, such as retirement plans (e.g., 403(b)) and health insurance deductions. + Provide payroll reporting to leadership and assist in budgetary planning for compensation-related expenses. + Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, compliance matters, and timekeeping processes promptly and professionally. + Support annual audits and assist external auditors by providing necessary payroll documentation and reconciliations. Requirements + 3+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably within the nonprofit or public sector. + Strong knowledge of payroll systems such as ADP, Paylocity, or similar platforms, with exposure to systems tailored to nonprofit operations preferred. + Familiarity with federal and state payroll laws, including compliance with ACA filings, wage laws, and garnishments. + Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and formulas. + Strong organizational and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy. + Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments and handle employee inquiries. + Knowledge of nonprofit accounting or payroll structures is highly desirable. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience working with payroll in grant-funded organizations or multi-location nonprofits. + Familiarity with payroll reconciliations tied to restricted funding or grants. + Certifications such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or related credentials are a plus.
