The Payroll Accountant is responsible for producing accurate, timely weekly payroll for union and confidential employees while maintaining compliance with union agreements, tax regulations, and company policies. This position plays a key role in payroll reporting, union benefits administration, payroll tax filings, certified payroll, and reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, patient, and comfortable working with imperfect or incomplete data. Success in this role requires proactive validation of union rates, benefits, and deductions to ensure accurate payroll processing and audit-ready documentation.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcess weekly union and confidential payroll accurately and on timeEnsure compliance with union contracts, wage determinations, and company policiesAdminister union benefits, including health & welfare contributions and reportingPrepare and submit certified payroll reportsManage payroll tax filings and W‑2 preparationUpload and reconcile 401(k) contributions, including annual reportingReconcile payroll and benefit-related liability accounts to the general ledgerCoordinate and support union and payroll auditsReconcile benefit invoices and investigate discrepanciesWork cross-functionally with HR and Accounting to resolve payroll and benefits issuesRequired Skills & ExperiencePayroll processing and payroll accountingPayroll tax knowledge and complianceGeneral ledger reconciliationsExperience working with union payrollStrong attention to detail and analytical skillsPreferred QualificationsConstruction industry payroll experienceUnion audit coordination experienceHealth & welfare benefit reporting experience401(k) plan administration experience, including uploads and reconciliationsBasic bookkeeping and accounting knowledgeExperience reconciling benefit invoicesFamiliarity collaborating with HR and Accounting teamsCollege coursework or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related fieldExperience LevelIntermediateJob Type & Location
