Summary
Maintains responsibility for the transportation of patients, specimens, and equipment throughout the facility. Moves patients to and from clinical units and various diagnostic/treatment areas via a wheelchair, stretcher, or bed which may include patients with oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips, and other equipment. Coordinates patient transport activities in the facility as well as at the entrances. Responds to various alerts to prevent and assist with emergent situations. Assists patients and patient care staff. Performs equipment distribution functions and inventory management for clinical equipment in clinical areas. Delivers a high level of customer service and ensures the satisfaction of patients and staff and participation in providing and maintaining accurate information and inventory levels.

Job DutiesTransports patients in a safe and timely manner as directed by medical professional staff and established policies and procedures. Completes all training requirements and attends in-service education and scheduled departmental staff meetings for transportation planning and initiatives. Supports patient throughput and hospital capacity initiatives by using transport software to facilitate timely patient transports. Coordinates activities in the discharged patient holding area. Handles portable oxygen cylinders safely and provides safety checks with oxygen and follows protocols to keep patients and staff safe from cross infections. Receives and documents patient transportation assignments. Performs equipment functions such as retrieving, counting, stocking, transporting, cleaning, and sanitizing equipment. Takes excess oxygen tanks to appropriate storage areas and ensures oxygen tanks are in appropriate holders.
Minimum QualificationsHigh School Diploma/GED 1 year of experience in customer service Ability to demonstrate the importance of and ability to provide a high level of customer service. Ability to display a compassionate, positive, and upbeat disposition in interactions with customers/patients. Knowledge of specialty equipment tools: typewriter, computer, copier, fax, calculator. BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association within 180 Days DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania Upon Hire
Preferred QualificationsTechnical School Diploma and Associate’s Degree
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
