Patient Financial Advocate - CHS - Patient Access - Full Time - Days

The Patient Financial Advocate builds connections with patients and ensures they are screened for assistance while providing guidance on available resources like Medicaid and financial assistance. This role includes in-person (i.e., in office, at bedside or pre-service) financial assessments, estimates creation, payment collection, and patient education at ProMedica hospitals. The Patient Financial Advocate ensures proper follow-up, documentation, and compliance with ProMedica’s policies and procedures.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

3. Provides excellent service and prompt support to ensure quality of patient care and experience.
4. Responsible for daily management of patient interviews to assess patient liability, creating estimates prior to service, completion of financial screening for Medicaid and charity discounts, and education of payment options to resolve financial obligation that results in financial clearance for services.
5. Help patients in following through with the necessary paperwork and verifications for eligibility with a payer source.
6. Coordinate with external vendors as well as internal departments to ensure insurance eligibility or government programs are reviewed and pursued.
7. Communicates resolutions on issues, helps to review workflow improvements for efficiencies, implement processes, and aid with training new team members.
8. Other duties as assigned.
Education: Associate degree in business or healthcare related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills paired with excellent interpersonal abilities, proven capacity to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information, exceptional time management and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple priorities, proficiency in navigating and utilizing various computer programs, solid understanding of medical insurances and medical terminology, ability to make independent decisions for the optimal outcomes, and skilled at working under deadlines and managing high volumes while adapting to dynamic environments.
Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital, physician clinic, healthcare revenue cycle, health insurance, or finance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Associate Degree in business or healthcare related field.
Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of medical insurances, with a particular focus on Ohio and Michigan Medicaid. Exhibits creativity and resourcefulness in finding effective solutions to challenging situations. Provides compassionate, patient-centered care with excellent bedside customer service, ensuring a positive and supportive experience.
Years of Experience: 3+ years of experience in a hospital, physician clinic, healthcare revenue cycle, health insurance, or finance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands: Typical sitting, standing, typing, lifting associated with a basic office environment.
