Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Patient Financial Advocate!

 

As a Patient Financial Advocate at MercyOne, you will Provide assistance to self-pay patients. Maintain working knowledge of governmental and community resources and offers alternatives to help the needy. Facilitates application process and transfers. Adheres to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare’s performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.

1.          Assesses clients’ financial needs of self-pay patients.

•           Interviews customers to determine eligibility for assistance through state, county or local organization.

•           Keeps knowledge of referral sources current.

•           Assesses financial situation and discusses financial alternatives with clients and families.

•           Evaluates feasibility (i.e., financial,  willingness) of services and resources.

2.          Assists patients/families in seeking resources in order to obtain needed care.

•           Discusses alternatives with patient and family.

•           Assists customers filling out government program applications.

•           Assists customers in securing available funding within the community to help them settle their outstanding obligation for the service received.

•           Documents education, referrals and the resolution of problem.

•           Follows-up to ensure success of plan.

3.          Assists social workers in planning for patients’ financial needs after discharge.

•           Meets one-on-one with patients and families to individualize discharge plan and after-care.

•           Communicates recommended follow-up treatment to interdisciplinary treatment team.

•           Uses knowledge of referral agencies to facilitate continued treatment or placement.

General Requirements: 

0 – 2 years - Two years experience in health care finance setting preferred.

 Education: 

Bachelors Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field preferred.
