Are you an experienced healthcare professional ready to take the next step in your career? UPMC Magee Pre Post Op is hiring a Full-Time Flex Patient Care Technician to join our dedicated surgical services team—where your skills are valued and your growth is supported.
In this role, you'll assist patients through every phase of their surgical experience, from pre-op prep to recovery and discharge. With a flexible schedule totaling at least 56 hours over two weeks, you'll work a mix of 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts between 5:30 AM and 9:00 PM—and enjoy the benefit of no nights, weekends, or holidays.
We’re looking for candidates with hospital patient care experience who are ready to make an impact. Monitor training and IV skills are a plus.

Responsibilities:
Departmental Support & Professionalism

Patient Care & Clinical Skills
+ Performs core nursing assistant responsibilities: ADLs (bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulating, turning/repositioning), vital signs, weights, I&O, blood glucose testing, telemetry monitor application/reapplication, and specimen collection.
+ Provides patient care including assistance with procedures and activities of daily living.
+ Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
+ Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient care and changes in patient status.
+ Offers instruction to patients and families under RN direction.
+ Applies, monitors, and removes patient restraints per protocol.
+ Transports cardiac-monitored patients within the hospital.
+ May insert and remove Foley catheters, perform straight catheterization, and IV insertion/removal with dressing changes.
+ Performs advanced skills as needed: basic arrhythmia, complex wound care, 12-lead EKGs, NG tube clamping/removal, bladder scan, simple dressings, and point-of-care testing.

+ Responds to call lights and telephones, passes meal trays, and transports patients.
+ Develops and maintains productive working relationships by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment.
⚙️ Equipment & Logistics
+ Assures equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.
+ May be present in medication storage areas or transport medications between departments as part of patient transport duties.
+ High School Diploma or GED required
+ Must meet one of the following:
+ Option A: 2 years of general healthcare experience and meet Patient Care Technician (PCT) criteria
+ Option B: 1 year of healthcare experience and enrollment in a PT/OT/PA program with at least one completed clinical rotation
+ Option C: 1 year of healthcare experience and a completed bachelor's degree in a health sciences field
+ Additional Training & Competencies
+ Completion of Patient Care Technician Senior Class
+ Completion of eRecord Training
+ Completion of Basic Arrhythmia Course with annual competency
+ Annual completion of a professional contribution (details provided post-hire)

+ Preferred Qualifications
+ Nursing student with at least one completed clinical rotation
+ EMT or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program
+ ACLS certification preferred
+ ️ Licensure, Certifications & Clearances
+ CPR/BLS certification required within 30 days of hire (AHA standards: didactic + skills demo)
+ Act 34 Clearance required
