UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is hiring full-time Patient Care Technicians (BH Fellow) to support various units within our Oakland, PA location.

The Patient Care Technician BH Fellow role is a valued step in the UPMC Patient Support Career Ladder. The title and starting pay rate may vary based on years of experience (Patient Care Technician level candidates will be considered for this role, minimum pay rate is $18.80)
Responsibilities:
Patient Care: Assist with daily living activities (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating); perform core nursing responsibilities (ADLs, point of care testing, weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application, HAC & PSI prevention, urine specimen collection); provide one-on-one companionship/supervision as required. Communication & Teamwork: Communicate clearly with the healthcare team; understand cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment; establish effective communication strategies; maintain professional and respectful relationships. Patient & Workplace Safety: Support safety in the workplace; perform patient observations and crisis interventions; conduct safety and environmental rounds; use least restrictive techniques; maintain a safe and organized environment. Departmental Support: Suggest and support changes; take responsibility for assignments; be aware of behavior’s impact on department efficiency; report equipment malfunctions. Supplies & Equipment: Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment; perform messenger functions; order, charge/credit supplies; set up patient care equipment; stock patient rooms and unit supply areas. Documentation & Compliance: Document in medical records; comply with safety policies and procedures; respond to emergent situations; adhere to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital information. Feedback & Development: Receive feedback constructively; identify learning needs; improve knowledge, skills, and performance; participate in self-review. Additional Duties: Contribute to unit activities (responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, transporting patients); perform clerical functions as needed; perform other assigned duties.
