Patient Care Tech. (Variable Shifts)
**UPMC Northwest Hospital** **Patient Care Technician** **Full Time (40 hours/week)** **Unit: Medical / oncology** **Shifts: typically, day & evenings** **The 23-bed Med/Surg Oncology Unit cares for patients with a wide range of medical, surgical, and oncology needs. Supported by a skilled team of RNs, LPNs, PCTs, and PFCs, staff gain exposure to diverse diagnoses and valuable oncology experience—making this an excellent environment for professional growth.** **Responsibilities:** + Provide direct patient care, including activities of daily living, procedures, and basic therapies under RN supervision. + Perform core nursing assistant duties: vital signs, blood glucose testing, specimen collection, Foley care, and more. + Carry out advanced skills as needed: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressings, bladder scan, catheter removal, IV removal. + Support patient safety and comfort by responding to call lights, transporting patients, and passing meal trays. + Maintain equipment, report malfunctions, and follow all safety and infection control policies. + Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the healthcare team, demonstrating professionalism and respect. + Assist with patient/family education as directed by the RN. + Accurately document care in the medical record. + Engage in ongoing professional growth, seek feedback, and participate in quality improvement initiatives + High school diploma or GED required. + One of the following: + 1 year of general healthcare experience, OR + 6+ months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer for those with less than 1 year of experience, OR + Enrollment in a PT, OT, PA, or related healthcare training program with at least one clinical rotation completed, OR + Bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field. + Successful completion of the UPMC Patient Care Technician class and eRecord training. + EMT or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT/Paramedic program, preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances + Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification (AHA-approved, including both classroom and skills demonstration) required within 30 days of hire. + ACLS preferred. + Act 34 Criminal Clearance. + OAPSA clearance **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
