Sometimes, an Emergency Department visit is not long enough to understand issues and concerns patients present. Other times, they may need additional time/treatment to feel healthy again. The Clinical Decision Unit at Weston Hospital is a 24-bed unit that cares for these patients as staff decide if they can be discharged safely or need to be admitted. As a PCNA on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. This position offers the ability to pursue educational advancement, higher positions and skills development courses offered by Cleveland Clinic. **A caregiver in this position works nights from 7:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m. with rotating weekend requirements.**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Assist nursing caregivers, promote patient comfort and carry out nursing orders
+ Transport patients by wheelchair, bed or stretcher to and from the department/unit.
+ Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties.
+ Attend to patient and family needs and problems.
+ Assist patients with activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing and hygiene.
+ Report pertinent information regarding patient condition to appropriate nursing staff.
+ Assist patients with tray set up and feeding.
+ Interact with the Food and Nutrition Services to maintain an adequate supply of nourishment for the patients.
+ Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply.
+ Document care provided in the medical record.
+ Collect and transport specimens.
+ Provide RNs/LPNs with accurate and timely intake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly.
+ Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so.
+ Report patient needs to an RN/LPN immediately.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within new hire period
+ Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Graduate of an approved Nursing Program or previous hospital training
+ State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Certification
+ Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting

**Physical Requirements:**
+ The position requires a considerate amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds.
+ Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
+ The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment or supports, and push beds throughout the hospital.
+ The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties such as check chest tube drainage, check urine output, etc.
+ The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.
+ Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills.
+ In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.
+ Mental Demands: Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to numerous requests; ability to resolve conflicts among staff and to work collaboratively with department director, physicians and other members of the Healthcare team; ability to ensure operational efficiency; ability to problem solve and make decisions; ability to exercise self control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.
+ Special Demands: Essential Sensory requirement - ability to visually assess patients and implement plan of care.
+ Essential Technical/Motor Skill - finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination are necessary when charting, using equipment, and providing direct patient care.
**Personal Protective Equipment:**
+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
