Mercy Hospital's 9M Cardiac Stepdown Unit primarily cares for patients coming from the Cardiovascular Surgical Care Unit (CVSCU). This 32-bed unit is currently a high-acuity medical/surgical and cardiac stepdown unit, with plans to transition exclusively into a dedicated cardiac stepdown unit. It provides care for post-cardiac cath lab patients, as well as those with chest tubes, PleurX catheters, and complex wounds. The team is strongly focused on quality improvement and delivering excellent patient care. As a PCNA on this team, you will coordinate with fellow caregivers to create a welcoming, healing and warm environment for patients. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter. + Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN. + Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + High School Diploma or GED + Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or must obtain during your new hire period + Nursing students: required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) prior to hire + Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered + Proficient in applied mathematics & reading comprehension at an eighth-grade level Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: + State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) Our caregivers continue to create the best outcomes for our patients across each of our facilities.
