As a Patient Access Workleader, you will take the lead in daily operations while actively performing registration duties. In this role, you will collaborate with the supervisor to recommend and implement policies and procedures that support accurate and efficient patient access processes. This position primarily covers the Emergency Department, with additional cross-trained coverage in areas such as Admitting, Wound Care, Radiology, Lab, and Breast Health.
A caregiver in this role works evenings + on-call shifts from 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. with weekend and holiday requirements. (flexible start/end times)
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Identify and utilize appropriate reports to contact insurance payers for resolution of accounts with registration issues with a minimal need to escalate issues internally.
Assist with and resolve patient inquiries or complaints.
Recommend and provide input to execute Patient Access programs in accordance with changes in insurance regulations and data obtained from various departments and physicians regarding issues including registration.
Assist the site manager/supervisor with the daily operational activities of patient access.
Rotate in the on-call coverage as well as covers call-offs within the department.
Participate in committees in an engaging manner as a subject matter expert on processes within the department.
Cross train staff in all areas of Patient Access at any facility, including but not limited to Front Desk, Admitting Office, ER registration and Cashier.
Identify patient registration issues and resolve or initiate follow up.
Implement service recovery efforts as appropriate.
Manage staff schedules, handle call-offs, allocate work and resources and enter time and attendance.
Perform compliance and denial audits, work reports and help ensure smooth day-to-day operations within the department.
Assist in the development and implementation of new processes.
Function as a Super User.
Assist in the completion of departmental audits, reports and QA.
Handle coaching based on compliance metrics and oversee cashiering duties as necessary.
Provide registration and cash collection access in Epic.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED and four years of experience in a customer-facing role with in-person or phone contact or previous work leader experience with demonstrated competence in personnel management
OR Associate’s degree and three years of experience
OR Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience
Basic PC software application knowledge and the ability to use multiple data systems
Knowledge of medical terminology sufficient to understand physician orders or complete a course within one year
Physical Requirements:
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
In some locations ability to move up to 25 lbs.
