Hillcrest Hospital’s Pain Management Center provides comprehensive, coordinated care to patients with short-term or acute pain caused by an injury or surgery, as well as long-term or chronic pain, which may not have an easily identifiable cause. As a Patient Access Clerical Assistant, you will register and schedule patients while also performing order entry, filing, telephone triage and other clerical duties.
A caregiver in this role works days from 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Accurately identify patient type and select the appropriate registration category.
Confirm and enter correct physician and service details.
Enter insurance, demographic and other patient information into the registration system.
Obtain required patient signatures and make copies of insurance cards.
Screen for medical necessity and complete Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire (MSPQ) as needed.
Schedule patient appointments and gather relevant history per physician request.
Communicate necessary information to physician offices and other facilities.
Accurately input patient orders and maintain timely data entry; ensure computer and fax equipment are functioning properly.
Prepare and organize medical record forms and assemble admission/discharge charts.
Transcribe physician orders, file patient data and maintain departmental logs.
Inventory, order and store clerical supplies as directed.
Notify patients of lab results per RN instructions; refer symptom concerns to nursing or medical staff.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED
One year customer service experience dealing with the public on the phone or in person
Ability to work effectively in complex environment of a large health system with multiple constituencies
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
College degree or business school education
One year patient financial services background (registration, billing, medical office, customer service, follow-up, or collections)
Basic PC software application knowledge and ability to use multiple data systems
Knowledge of billing and insurance
Epic system experience

Physical Requirements:
Position is primarily seated at a desk using telephone, keyboard, and PC.
Must stand/walk/bend to retrieve documents from printer, file, and use copier.
May be required to lift.
May be required to escort patients to location of care using wheelchair transport.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
