Pathology Reporting Specialist
**It's more than a career, it's a calling.** WI-SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - Madison **Worker Type:** Regular **Job Highlights:** This role has the potential to become a Pathology Reporting Specialist Sr. if candidates have a coding certification and one year of experience. **Job Summary:** Performs a variety of tasks to support the pathologists, surgical pathology and cytology departments, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail. **Job Responsibilities and Requirements:** PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES + Documents patient demographics, orders, reports, billing records, and other necessary information into the electronic medical record. + Assists with requests in the preparation of diagnostic material for reference lab testing, research studies and tumor board (e.g., processing orders, requesting materials, and packaging diagnostic material and documentation). + Answers and triages phone calls, relays messages, and fulfills requested tasks prompted by these encounters. + Contacts outside providers to communicate additional test recommendations based on the pathologists’ findings. + Scans paper requisitions, second opinion pathology reports, and unsolicited pathology reports into the electronic medical record. Initiates amended reports as needed. + Interprets and converts dictation by health care professionals into printed text. Recognizes, interprets, and evaluates inconsistencies, discrepancies and inaccuracies in medical dictation and appropriately edits, revises, and/or clarifies without altering meaning of dictation or changing dictator's style. + Utilizes computerized dictation and transcription software and electronic health record software. + Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION + High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience EXPERIENCE + No experience required PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS + Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs. + Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. + Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors. + Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc. + Frequent keyboard use/data entry. + Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping. + Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs. + Rare climbing.
