Job Description
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for leading the strategic planning, development, and operational oversight of all Laboratory Services, including both clinical and pathology labs. This role ensures regulatory compliance, supervises laboratory personnel, and supports quality improvement initiatives in alignment with state, federal, and accrediting body standards.
ResponsibilitiesDirects daily activities of laboratory staff, including scheduling, timekeeping, performance evaluations, and PTO approvals.Ensures ongoing training and competency assessments are completed on schedule.Manages laboratory workflows, equipment maintenance, LIS/EMR integration, and service contracts.Coordinates with vendors and IT to maintain system functionality and resolve issues.Maintains up-to-date procedure manuals and laboratory records.Oversees CLEP permit renewals, proficiency testing, and ensures adherence to NYSDOH and other regulatory guidelines.Conducts audits, reviews QC data, calibrations, and validation studies.Collaborates with the Laboratory Medical Director to evaluate and implement new testing methodologies.Facilitates annual chemical exposure testing for pathology staff.Ensures all licensed personnel meet continuing education requirements and maintains documentation of compliance.Provides hands-on support for laboratory testing, including microbiology, urine cytology, FISH analysis, semen analysis, and other clinical diagnostics as needed (30–50% of workload).Prepares agendas and reports for quarterly quality meetings, maintains licensure across locations, and updates policies and SOPs in response to operational needs.Essential SkillsProven management skills in a laboratory setting.NYS Medical Technologist license.Experience with bench work, hematology, medical laboratory procedures, microbiology, and molecular biology.Additional Skills & QualificationsMinimum of 8-10 years of laboratory experience with at least 3 years in a management role.Work Environment
This position is based in Poughkeepsie, covering assignments across over 20 locations. The company is expanding, offering room for individual growth and competitive pay.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
