Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Pathology Assistant to join our Surgical Pathology division. This role requires a New York State Permit for a Pathology Assistant and a Bachelor's degree. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of experience working as a Pathology Assistant in a pathology lab.
ResponsibilitiesReceive tissue specimens from the operating room, nursing floors, and specialty rooms, ensuring appropriate submission, numbering, and logging.Accurately describe and document specimens in CoPath or coordinate with secretarial staff for documentation.Obtain and label representative tissue specimens for slide preparation, logging them in the daily tissue accession log.Review prepared slides either immediately or at a later time.Assist in performing autopsies.Prepare a written Gross Examination Report, subject to approval by the Pathologist.Be on-call during evenings and weekends to address autopsy consent and other laboratory service issues.Handle large and complex cases, including cancer specimens, with expertise in grossing specimens, amputations, and more.Accession specimens and assist with frozen sections.Gross all specimens, managing 45-60 cases daily.Essential SkillsNew York State Permit for a Pathology AssistantBachelor's degree3 or more years of experience as a Pathology Assistant in a pathology labExperience with cancer centersProficiency in Pathology, Laboratory, and HistologyAdditional Skills & QualificationsOpen to candidates with 2 years of experience if from a large-scale hospitalCapability to gross large cases, including uteri, breast cancer, and colon cancersWork Environment
The position offers a Monday to Friday schedule, from 8am to 4pm, with no weekends required. Enjoy a stable, long-term position with room for growth in a laboratory managed by reputable leadership.
