Job Summary:
This wonderful family based in Mile End are seeking an experienced and proactive housekeeper / cook to support their family home in a spacious 4-storey Georgian townhouse. The role is Monday to Friday, primarily to be present at home with their independent 12-year-old son – no childcare duties required. Responsibilities include general housekeeping, household management, running errands, and occasional cooking of simple, healthy meals tailored to the family’s preferences.
The ideal candidate is friendly, adaptable, and genuinely child-friendly, able to build a warm and trusting relationship with the family. They should be self-motivated with a can-do attitude, confident in managing the household independently without close supervision. The family is relaxed, appreciative, and open to guidance from the housekeeper, valuing discretion, reliability, and a calm, easy-going presence. Candidates should also be active and comfortable with stairs given the layout of the home.
Job specification:
General housekeeping duties including laundry 2-3 times per week, ironing and changing bed linen weekly (plus additional changes when guests stay). General cleaning and upkeep of shared areas including the kitchen, living spaces, bathrooms, and garden / terrace area. Regular dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and wiping down surfaces throughout the home to maintain a high standard of cleanliness. Household and wardrobe management, including ordering house supplies, food shopping, receiving deliveries, and organising clothing donations. Running errands and handling basic household maintenance tasks (e.g. changing light bulbs, coordinating with maintenance workers or handymen). Greeting guests and preparing rooms for visitors. Cooking simple, healthy meals for the family, batch cooking and meal prep welcomed. Occasionally cooking for additional guests during informal family gatherings.
Candidate specification:
Friendly, adaptable, and down-to-earth, able to fit naturally into a family environment and adapt to changing routines and needs. Proven housekeeping experience, with strong practical knowledge of maintaining a clean, organised, and well-run household independently. Proactive and self-motivated with a can-do attitude – able to identify tasks and get on with them without constant direction or supervision. Experience and willingness to assist with meal preparation and cooking simple, healthy meals suited to family preferences. Must be active and comfortable with stairs due to the layout of the home. Warm, approachable, and child-friendly personality is essential. The most important aspect of this role is building a positive and trusting relationship with the family and their young son, ensuring he feels comfortable and at ease around the home.
