Part-Time Faculty - Public Health, Fall 2025

The Public Health program at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for a part-time faculty position that will teach Applied Biostatistical Analysis (MPH 545) in Fall 2025, beginning September 1, 2025.
Applied Biostatistical Analysis (MPH 545): This course is intended to give Master of Public Health students a working understanding of the major types of biostatistical analyses commonly used in public health, laboratory sciences, and clinical research. Topics include estimation, hypothesis testing, non-parametric statistical models, correlation, t-tests, analysis of variance, categorical data analysis, linear regression, and use of statistical software. Teaching schedule is Thursdays, 5 – 7:30PM, Hyflex (in person at the Portland Campus, with online live over zoom).
We are seeking student-focused instructors who will be responsible for the full delivery and grading of the course. Responsibilities include developing course content, teaching, assessing student performance, and meeting with students as needed. The instructor will be provided with the course learning objectives, program competencies, and suggested topical outline and will be given a previous course syllabus for reference. A previous full build of the course will also be provided, including lecture slides, assignments, etc., which the instructor is welcome to use at their discretion.
This class is for graduate students, including Master of Public Health students in the Public Health Program (https://catalog.usm.maine.edu/preview\_program.php?catoid=20&poid=4003) at the Muskie School of Public Service. Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience. Qualifications:
+ A graduate degree in public health (e.g., an MPH) or in a related field relevant to applied biostatistical analysis, such as statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science, computational biology, or health informatics.
+ Academic or professional experience demonstrating one or more of the following:
+ Proficiency in applied statistical methods
+ Ability to explain statistical concepts in context
+ Familiarity with quantitative research and data in public health or related fields (e.g., epidemiology, psychology, education, political science, or market research)
+ Experience with statistical software tools like SPSS, R, SAS, or Stata
+ Prior experience teaching at the college or graduate level is preferred but not required.
