Part-Time Faculty - Exercise, Health and Sport Sciences, Academic Year 2025-2026
The Department of Exercise, Health and Sport Sciences at the University of Southern Maine is seeking part-time instructor applicants for the upcoming academic year. Our Fall 2025 semester begins September 1, 2025. This is an in-person teaching position on our Gorham Campus. The successful candidate will be able to teach undergraduate courses within the Department’s Exercise Science and Health Sciences degree programs. Courses to be taught may include but are not limited to: Introduction to Exercise, Health, and Sport Sciences (SPM 100), Medical Terminology (SPM 140), Lifetime Physical Fitness and Wellness (SPM 219), Foundations of Exercise Science (SPM 260), Physiology of Exercise Labs (SPM 331), Kinesiology Labs (SPM 382), and/or Biomechanics Lab (SPM 391). All part time faculty are responsible for providing our students with a high-quality learning environment, while utilizing their focused expertise and experience in their individual classroom, laboratories and studios. The Department of Exercise, Health and Sport Sciences (EHSS) (https://usm.maine.edu/department-exercise-health-sport-sciences/) offers degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Therapeutic Recreation, and Health Sciences. These innovative programs offer students the opportunity to gain clinical experience while using the most advanced athletic training and exercise science equipment available. EHSS offers accredited, professional programs that provide a quality learning environment through content-rich curricula, student-faculty interactions, and active learning experiences to emphasize the application of knowledge. Part-time faculty members are paid on a credit hour basis based on prior teaching experience. Required Qualifications: + A completed degree in Exercise Science or closely related field. + Prior experience teaching in the Health Science and/or Exercise Science field. Preferred Qualifications: + A completed Master’s Degree or Master Degree in progress in a related field. + ACSM or NSCA certification preferred but not required.
