**Position Title:** Part Time Academic Champion-PGHS **Job Description:** **JOB TITLE:** Academic Champion (Port Gibson High School) **REPORTS TO:** UBMS-Copiah & Claiborne County Project Director **DEPARTMENT** : Sponsored Grants **EXEMPT:** No **VICE PRESIDENT** :VP of Career and Technical Education, Sponsored Grants, and HBCU Initiatives GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students The Academic Champion/Interventionist supports Upward Bound Math & Science–Copiah & Claiborne County by providing intensive academic interventions, mentoring, and program coordination for high school participants. This position designs and delivers classroom-based instruction, conducts orientation workshops for students, parents, and community stakeholders, and screens applications to determine participant eligibility, referring ineligible students to alternative services as needed. **QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS** To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. **EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE** Master’s Degree (Required), preferably in Education (Math and/or Science), Administration/Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, Student Personnel, and/or related fields. Experience working with low-income, first-generation, minority students. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** include the following. Other duties may be assigned. + Must provide intervention to Upward Bound Math & Science-Copiah & Claiborne County participants. + Must possess excellent verbal, written, and strong interpersonal skills. + Must possess public relations, marketing, and advertising skills + Must serve in the role to ensure close communication, progress monitoring of participants and provide appropriate strategies for the Check and Connect Mentoring Program. + Must be knowledgeable of Dual Enrollment/Credit and Advance Placement of participants + Must conduct orientation workshops for students, parents, community, and other related entities. + Must screen applications for participant eligibility + Must refer ineligible students to appropriate or alternative services + Must maintain participant files + Must meet with UBMS Director and target school principal on a regular basis + Must conduct participant follow-up surveys + Must participate in in-service meetings + Must work with target school counselors in coordinating project activities + Must work with target school counselors in providing documentation for participant files. + Develops and Implements academic curriculum through classroom-based instruction. + Must perform other duties as required to achieve program goals and objectives. + Must have experience and ability to effectively work with students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural backgrounds. + Must perform other duties as required to achieve program goals and objectives. **SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Must supervise Academic Instructors/Interventionists during academic tutorials. + Must submit timesheets at the designated time. **PHYSICAL DEMANDS** The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
