Location: Novant Health Hilton Head Hospital - 25 Hospital Center Blvd, Hilton Head, SC 29926 Shift: Days, 7am-7pm - weekend and holiday rotation required Status: Full Time Our Emergency Department is a 25-bed unit that specializes in providing immediate medical care for patients with severe or urgent illnesses or injuries. It is equipped to handle a wide range of services, including initial assessment, treatment, stabilization, emergencies, from minor injuries to life-threatening conditions and potentially admission to the hospital. What You'll Do In an Emergency Department (ED), a paramedic functions as a high-level clinical extender. While their scope of practice is similar to field work, their hospital role focuses on stabilizing patients, assisting with advanced procedures, and streamlining the flow of the ER. + Advanced Vascular Access: Establishing peripheral IVs, performing ultrasound-guided IV starts, and drawing blood for laboratory analysis. + Cardiac Care: Performing and interpreting 12-lead EKGs, monitoring continuous cardiac rhythms, and recognizing lethal arrhythmias. + Airway Management: Assisting with Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI), managing ventilators or BiPAP, and performing suctioning or basic airway maneuvers. + Code Response: Acting as a core member of the team for cardiac or respiratory arrests, often leading compressions or managing the monitor/defibrillator. What We're Looking For + Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. + Experience: 2 years required for ED and CCT. 3 years required for Event Medicine. + Licensure/Certification: + Paramedic Certification or Degree, required. + National Registry for Critical Care Transport or an educational agreement to obtain National Registry within 18 months of hire, required. + NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments, required. + Current driver's license in appropriate state for Critical Care Transport Departments, required. + Additional Skills (required): Must have ability to assess and/or interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements for care relative to his/her age, as well as health and developmental needs. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in written documentation. Excellent customer service skills. Possesses the ability to prioritize job duties according to patients' needs and changing acuity levels. Administer and evaluate medication therapies, performs patient transfers and transport patients via wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments. Ability to lift and carry various equipment including portable cardiac monitors, etc. Ability to provide routine care such as start IV's, perform dressing changes, etc. to patients in a timely manner.
