**About Our Emergency Department:**
The UNC REX Emergency Department is a dynamic, high-acuity environment consisting of **54 patient beds** and an additional **8-bed behavioral health holding area** with private rooms. Our facility features:
+ **2 major resuscitation rooms**
+ **Dedicated triage rooms** for efficient initial assessments
+ An **in-department radiology suite**
+ A specialized **decontamination room**
Our team provides comprehensive care across a full range of emergencies—from life-threatening conditions to minor injuries, as well as **acute medical and behavioral health** issues.
Specialized services include:
+ **Chest Pain Center**
+ **Advanced Stroke Care**

Summary:
As a **Paramedic** in our Emergency Department, you will be an integral part of the **clinical care team** , working closely with **Registered Nurses and Physicians** to deliver high-quality, age-appropriate care.
Key responsibilities include:
+ Providing hands-on patient care under the supervision of licensed clinical staff
+ Supporting the delivery of both medical and behavioral health interventions
+ Utilizing your **NC OEMS-approved paramedic skill set**
+ Ensuring adherence to hospital policies, protocols, and clinical standards
This role is ideal for skilled paramedics seeking to expand their clinical experience in a hospital-based emergency setting.
Responsibilities:
+ Takes directions from nurse, physician and/or advanced practice provider to implement prescribed therapies within scope of practice.
+ Provides rapid evaluation of presenting patients and communicates to the care team the patient; 1⁄2s required needs/care.
+ Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes based on these priorities.
+ Maintains a safe, therapeutic and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting and professional behavior.
+ Acts as a patient advocate.
+ Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information.
+ Utilizes triage skills to assist in prioritizing of incoming ED patients.
+ Performs basic data collection, prepares patient for exam and communicates findings to primary and/or charge nurse.
+ Facilitates blood draw and starting of IVs based on orders and in coordination with primary/triage nurse.
+ Works to their paramedic license; does not give narcotics or perform intubations.
+ Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher as needed throughout facility.
+ Performs other duties as assigned by management.

**Education Requirements:**
● High school diploma or equivalent.
**Licensure/Certification Requirements:**
● Completion of OEMS approved training & competency program for Paramedic and current North Carolina Paramedic Certification required.
● Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS.
**Professional Experience Requirements:**
● Six months experience in a pre-hospital environment as a Paramedic required.
**Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:**
● Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively and appropriately to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Incumbent must demonstrate clinical competence per the position’s Skills Checklist before being allowed to perform independently.
