In this role, you will work collaboratively with teams of USAO attorneys in the Criminal and Civil Units to handle a wide variety of litigation support tasks from the basics (preparing and filing documents with courts and organizing, tracking and archiving legal documents) to the more complex tasks (redacting and protecting privilege information, conducting factual and legal research, assisting in witness interviews, depositions and trial preparation by preparing binders, indexing discovery, and preparing evidentiary exhibits, and providing in-court room assistance).

Responsibilities:
Assists legal support staff in legal document review, redacting, developing organizing exhibits, compiling notebooks, pulling fi le copies, assembling jury instructions, compiling witness lists, tabbing binders, labeling, and re-fi ling documents.
Uses a variety of applications to search and retrieve information necessary to complete assigned tasks: e.g., an internal case management database, fi les located on shared fi le network, and external sources such as court records or other agencies.
Examines, prepares, and processes a variety of technical legal documents which are voluminous and complex in format, e.g., indictments, criminal complaints, warrants, motions, notices, orders, pleadings, summons and subpoenas and other documents as needed. Obtains supporting information from fi les, law enforcement agencies, or other sources
Conducts research of issues using legal and non-legal databases and websites. Conducts non-complex research of statutes, regulations, and court cases for case source material.
Performs docketing duties such as opening, updating, and closing criminal cases through use of an automated case tracking system.
Runs standard reports in an automated case management system and processes resulting reports according to established procedures.
Digitizes legal case fi les in accordance with established policy.
Maintains calendar(s) of assigned cases for AUSA(s), scheduling appointments, interviews, and conferences, and provides reminders of commitments, court appearances and deadlines.
Works with the USAO Records Coordinator to transfer data from and between fi le servers, cloud servers and external media in accordance with federal guidelines and regulations. Uses established policies, such as the General Records Schedule and NARA-approved agency records schedules, to prepare litigation case files and other records to be stored or shipped to the Federal Records Center. Assembles physical case fi les in boxes and moves boxes into shipping containers for shipment and purges legal documents not archived.
Receives case related telephone calls and verifies identification of visitors to the USAO; controls access in accordance with district policy; Uses discretion in determining what information can be provided and to whom.
Ensures legal mail is processed or metered according to established policy.
Assists with conference and court room preparation and set up for meetings, hearings, depositions, and trial.
Qualifications:
Required:
Requires paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study.
One year of legal training or legal experience or at least two years of college education may be substituted for the paralegal certificate.
Role also requires basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citation to cite check legal motions and memorandum and must have sufficient experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw to perform basic legal research, and basic familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
DOJ MBI must be obtainable (US Citizenship required).

Pay Range:
This posting is for a position covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided for this position will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the wage determination issued by the Department of Labor and made applicable to this position, as incorporated into CACI’s government contract for the work location.
Minimum Required Hourly Wage:
$21.41
